Hallowed thought

There are a lot of skeletons out there for Halloween! All around the neighborhood—coming out of the ground or climbing off roofs—they seem to be everywhere, along with witches, ghosts, jack-o-lanterns and demons. What fun for the trick-or-treaters!

Thinking deeply about the word “hallow”, and what it might signify to us today, we can consider what it is we are choosing to honor or dedicate ourselves to accomplishing. The Bible indicates that the Christ, shown to us in the life and teachings of Jesus, “hath made us kings and priests unto God”. That’s a holy and consecrated role for each of us.

This Wednesday, October 29, we will explore the topic of “hallowed thought” in the readings at our weekly Testimony Meeting. You are welcome to join us in person, at Brookdale of Glen Ellyn, or by Zoom. The meeting begins at 7:30 pm with singing, followed by reading selections from the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy. The second half will include testimonies of healing and inspiration from those who want to share.

While we are having some Halloween fun, we can remember that we have all been given the dedicated office and ability to “cast out demons”, or false beliefs like sickness and sin. We can learn to practice this metaphysical divine healing as taught in Christian Science.
